Creative Coding Workshops

I have a background in environmental education and believe in community events as creative, exploratory breaks from the career world. Instructional materials from my events are posted below and are free to use and remix.

▶ Creative Coding & Open Source, Design Cultures & Creativity Design Camp

19 & 21 SEPT 2023

A 2-day “Design Camp” I hosted for the Design, Cultures, & Creativity Honors College. This workshop was a combination of digital media theory, art history, and hands-on creation where students learned now to create glitch art with Notepad++, livecode with Hydra, and navigate GitHub. By the end of the workshop, students had made their first pull requests to our workshop’s collective “portfolio.”

▶ [Dawn/Night] of the Livecoding Dead, Rhizome DC

2 NOV 2024

A Halloween-themed joint workshop and algorave funded by University of Maryland’s ArtsAMP Collaborative Student Microgrants. During the workshop, we taught attendees how to creatively livecode using the web tools Hydra and Strudel. During the algorave, nine artists from all across the East Coast performed algorithmic music sets with live coded visuals, while two art installations by UMD alumni ran in the upstairs gallery.

▶ Learn Creative Coding, Women and Gender eXpansive Coders DC

4 MAR 2025

Have you ever wondered what kind of creative work you can make with technology? Come join us to learn more about using code as a medium. During the workshop, we will explore livecoding as a form of performance that allows us to improvise with visuals and sound, using the open-source frameworks Hydra and Strudel. Some programming experience is helpful here, but beginners are also welcome. Please bring your own laptop!
